
Affordable and Safe Home Repairs
Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area partners with homeowners to complete affordable interior and exterior home repairs and modifications that increase the safety, accessibility, condition and livability of the home.
The Critical Home Repair program is designed to help keep low-income families in their existing home by making home repairs for which there is a need.
The Program Addresses Five Key Areas:
- Safety
- Security
- Accessibility
- Code Violations
- Energy Efficiency
How Does It Work?
- Homeowners complete an application, including all accompanying documentation.
- Habitat Harrisburg will schedule an assessment to identify and prioritize what your eligible repairs are.
- The assessment and application will be evaluated by our construction committee for approval.
- Professional construction staff, volunteers, and subcontractors make repairs to your home. Homeowners participate in the project as they are able.
What Types of Repairs Can Be Done?
Exterior Repairs and Modifications
- Steps, access ramps and walkways (eliminate tripping hazards)
- Roofs, windows, doors
- Porches and railings (fall prevention)
Critical Repairs and Replacement
- Roofing
- Plumbing
- Electrical
Interior Repairs and Modifications
- Floors, ceilings, walls, doors, grab bars, stair lifts and railings
- Kitchens and bathrooms
- Plumbing and electrical components


How Much Does It Cost?
Sponsor donations, grants and homeowners’ payments cover the cost of the project. Homeowners pay only a part of the cost of materials and subcontractors, based on their income.
Who Qualifies?
- Household gross income must be below 80% of the area median family income
- Must own and live in a home in Dauphin County, Camp Hill, Wormleysburg, or Lemoyne that needs repairs
- Must be up-to-date on property taxes and mortgage payments
- Must be the homeowner and current occupant
- Must have homeowner’s insurance
- Must fall within income guidelines
- Must have a need that falls within the five key areas we address

NOTE: You must submit the following required documents via e-mail or US Mail in order for the application to be considered complete!
- Federal Tax Return (most recent year). If Social Security is your sole income, provide your current Social Security benefits statement and the last three months of bank statements.
- Income Verification – Past six (6) weeks of documentation for all sources of income (e.g., wages, pension, Social Security, disability, unemployment, child support, etc.).
- Proof of Homeownership – Please send copies of the following:
- Property Deed
- Most recent mortgage payment invoice/receipt
- Homeowner’s insurance declaration page (most recent proof of insurance)
