1.  How long has home repairs been around?

Home Repairs was started in 2002. Since 2008 it has served 150 families.

 

2.  Who qualifies?

Residents of Dauphin County who own their own home AND whose city, school, and county taxes AND utilities are paid to date AND who meet the income guidelines below are eligible.

 

3.  How much do homeowners have to pay? Is it free?

Homeowners pay HFH through sweat equity. This means that instead of paying with money they volunteer their time to work off the cost of repairs.

 

4.   How much sweat equity does a homeowner have to put in?

Currently the amount of sweat equity a homeowner must contribute is something that is negotiated with the homeowner and our affiliate. It is presently based on the project cost and the amount of work completed.

 

5.  What if a homeowner is not physically capable of sweat equity?

If a homeowner is not physically able to complete their required sweat equity through construction other means of sweat equity can be arranged.

 

6.  Where does home repairs serve? What counties?

Our Home Repairs Program currently serves the Dauphin County area only.

 

7.  How long does the home repair process take?

The Home Repair Program, from the application process to project completion, generally takes anywhere from 5 to 8 months but can take longer depending on the project.

 

8.  If a homeowner has questions about the application whom should they contact?

9.  Who funds the Home Repairs Program?

Government grants and individual, congregational, company, and civic organizations provide the needed materials and labor for the Home Repairs Program.

 

10.  How often does the Home Repair Committee meet to approve applications?

The Home Repair Committee meets on the first Wednesday of every month to review applications.

 

11.  Does work get completed by order of application or by urgency of repairs?

Work gets completed by the order of the application and the ability to complete the project (weather permitting, etc.).
