Professional Hockey Players to Team with Habitat to Provide Holiday Meals
Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area has announced that the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank will be generously providing Thanksgiving meals to 12 Habitat partner families and recent homeowners again this year.
Habitat will receive a complete meal for each family from the Central PA Food Bank and then the meals will be delivered on Saturday, November 21st to the families by members of the Pennsylvania Typhoon, a professional inline hockey team. Thanksgiving is the next Thursday, November 26th.
Deliveries are scheduled for 11:00 on the 21st after the players and volunteers meet at Habitat’s future headquarters building located at 100 N. 13th Street in Harrisburg.
This holiday season marks the second year that Habitat has teamed with the Central PA Food Bank for Thanksgiving. The Central PA Food Bank also participates in all the partner family dedication ceremonies by donating food to stock the shelves and freezers in each new home. Central PA Food Bank has been dedicated to ending hunger in the Central PA area for more than 20 years. (www.centralpafoodbank.org)
The Typhoon hockey players will help by lending a hand in delivering the complete meals to the families a few days before Thanksgiving. Inline hockey is a sport growing in popularity in Central Pennsylvania, throughout the United States and around the globe. Team officials feel that by helping in community events, it will bring more visibility to the sport.
“It is important that the Typhoons are a part of this area’s community service, using their time to be a part of our community and reach out to families in need,” said Typhoon Director of Hockey Operations, Charley Yoder. “We have been supported greatly by people who come to our games and cheer us on. Now, it is time for us to give back.”
Yoder is considered, by many, to be the father of roller hockey here in America. He is the founder of the Professional Inline Hockey Association. The PIHA is the league that the Pennsylvania Typhoon plays in during its regular season which runs from November to February. (www.thepiha.com )
