PPL, Good Neighbor for Habitat
PPL makes pledge to support future headquarters for Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area.
Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area has a commitment from one of its neighbors. PPL Corporation made its first installment of a five-year, $25,000 pledge to Habitat for Humanity this week in Harrisburg. The donation will be used for further improvements to Habitat’s future headquarters building located at 100 North 13th Street in the city.
The check presentation was made to Habitat’s Executive Director Eve Wachhaus in front of PPL’s Brookwood Street location by Jim Nulton, PPL Community Relations Director. Nulton says that PPL is in the process of making major improvements to the company’s facility between 18th and 19th Streets, a move which will help solidify the area.
“We have made a commitment to the neighborhood and the City of Harrisburg,” said Nulton. “By teaming with Habitat for Humanity, PPL wants to help improve all parts of our neighborhood. We plan on being here for a very long time.”
The donation from PPL will be directed to Habitat for Humanity’s Capital Campaign for the organization’s new headquarters building on 13th Street in Harrisburg. Work has begun to renovate the property and PPL’s contribution will go a long way toward the ongoing improvement project.
“We are honored to not only have PPL as a neighbor in the city of Harrisburg, but also to have them make this ongoing contribution to our headquarters project,” said Habitat’s Wachhaus. “We literally are just a few blocks away from PPL’s main office. Now, our neighbor is committed to helping us reach our goal to eliminate poverty housing here in Central Pennsylvania.”
Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area is asking anyone interested in making a contribution, or finding out more about the organization, to stop by their web site at www.harrisburghabitat.org or call the Habitat office at 717-545-7299.
