Annual Golf Outing/Awards Event Held for Habitat
The 11th Annual Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area sponsored by MI Windows and Doors, was held this week at the beautiful Hershey Links Golf Course. Wonderful weather greeted the golfers as they hit the links to raise funds for Habitat. At the end of the day, more than $60,000 was generated to help Habitat for Humanity’s work to end poverty housing here in Central PA.
“MI Windows and Doors started this thing years ago and continue to work hard to make this a success today,” said Habitat’s Director of Development, Mark Mattern. “We had some very generous people and companies stick with the idea of this event, show up and support Habitat for Humanity.”
MI Windows and Doors, a major player in the window industry and located in Gratz, Dauphin County, has been a part of the outing for 11 years. The company has raised more than one million dollars for Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area.
Habitat also held its Humanitarian Awards ceremony as part of the day’s festivities. This ceremony is held each year so the local Habitat can acknowledge the work done by top volunteers, organizations and companies here in Central PA.
This year’s top honor in the Humanitarian Awards ceremony went to a member of the MI Window’s and Doors staff, Daryl Adams. Adams has been instrumental in running the golf outing for several years as well as being the person to oversee the growth of this major event. Adams was presented with the Chuck Dorsey Award, named after a former Executive Director and chairman of the Board of the Harrisburg Habitat.
Another Former Board president, Daphne Champagne, was presented with the first-ever Christine Guss Golden Heart Award. The award was created to honor work done in Harrisburg by Chris Guss, a former employee who began several initiatives including the Women Build.
