Holiday Reading with Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area welcomes young and old to join us at The Midtown Scholar Bookstore on Saturday, December 15th at 11:00 AM as we celebrate this season of giving with a special reading of The Carpenter’s Gift. This heartwarming Christmas tale about a young boy who longs for a safe, decent, and affordable home will be read by Habitat homeowner Shaunte Sloane and her son Jaylen.

Following the reading and Shaunte's own tale, we will be learning the art of construction with gingerbread, icing, and gum drops as we build our very first Habitat for Humanity gingerbread house! Children of all ages are invited to learn, read, and build with us during this free event.

“This book really tells the story about what we are doing here at Habitat,” said Charity Roberts,  Habitat’s AmeriCorp Community Outreach Coordinator.  “Shaunte will be describing how she got involved with Habitat for Humanity and what effect it has had on her family.”

The Midtown Scholar Bookstore is located at 1302 N. 3rd Street in Harrisburg.  For more information, please call Habitat at 545-7299 or the Midtown Scholar at 236-1600.

This year, Random House Children’s Books and Habitat for Humanity will celebrate the 80th Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree with a picture book inspired by Habitat for Humanity’s annual tradition of using wood milled from the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree to build a home for a family in need. THE CARPENTER’S GIFT is an uplifting holiday story for the whole family.   This year, the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony was held on Wednesday, November 28th

Reminder:  Habitat for Humanity’s presentation of the Eaken Piano Trio is set for Tuesday, December 4th at 7:00 P.M. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Cathedral on Front Street in Harrisburg.  The Eaken Trio will perform their famous “Home for the Holidays” to benefit Habitat for the 23rd consecutive year.  Call 545-7299 for details.
