Three Families Set to Move into New Habitat Homes

Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area dedicated three new homes in the Uptown section of Harrisburg.  The dedication ceremony took place on Thursday, November 8th, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the homes located at the corner of Jefferson and Woodbine Streets.  The dedication festivities were open to anyone wishing to attend this joyous event.

Members of the Juan Mitcheltree, Angela Garcia and Tina Elliot families were the guests of honor as they will received the keys to their new homes.  The families each contributed more than 350 sweat equity hours toward the completion of each home.  This dedication also recognized the home sponsors of the project, D and H Cares, Schneider Electric and Calvary United Methodist Church.

“Habitat’s goal of eliminating poverty housing is something our sponsors really understand,” said Habitat Executive Director Eve Wachhaus.  “These families will now have safe, affordable homes in which to live. Thanks to the families, the sponsors and our volunteers as this project took some time to complete.”

Habitat for Humanity volunteers put in more than 4800 hours working on these three homes.

The new homes have just over 4,000 square feet in living space combined and through Habitat for Humanity, the three families will have a no-interest, no-cost loan on their properties.

The Central PA Food Bank, as is tradition, was on hand to welcome the family as they stock the new home’s kitchen with food.  Central PA Food Bank has been dedicated to ending hunger in the Central PA area for more than 20 years.

More civic minded groups participated in the ceremony as well as several noted speakers.
