Eighth Annual Habitat for Humanity Art Auction Generates Great Interest
The Art Auction, featuring original art by local artists, to benefit Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area is set to go March 8th.
The Eighth Annual Habitat for Humanity Juried Art Auction will be held at the Hershey Country Club, March 8, 2013. The yearly event is an exciting way for artists, art collectors, community leaders and area residents to learn more about working artists in the Greater Harrisburg area.
Proceeds will go toward supporting Habitat for Humanity’s mission of eliminating poverty housing in Dauphin County and the West Shore here in Central Pennsylvania. The first seven auctions raised over $120,000 with all proceeds going to new home construction and critical home repair projects.
This year’s auction will also feature a revamped raffle and silent auction which is generating a lot of interest from local businesses. The auction committee has put together a powerful list of items for both the raffle and silent auction.
“We are selling raffle tickets in advance for this year’s art auction, we have never done that before,” said Habitat’s Director of Development, Mark Mattern. “Sponsors have been wonderful in making both the raffle and the silent auction a huge part of this year’s event. We also received a large number of donated art items from local artists. Put this all together and it should make for a very strong show.”
Some 50 to 60 original art pieces will be auctioned off to the high bidder during live auction part of the evening. Habitat also plans to include a few sports memorabilia pieces and other packages to the live auction. B.J. Jennings of the Jennings Auction Group, will be the auctioneer for the event for the second straight year.
Also for the second straight year, M&T Bank will be the Title Event Sponsor with Infiniti of Mechanicsburg, Avysion and Susquehanna Bank serving as major sponsors. David’s Furniture, Charles Furrier, World Cup Ski and Cycle, Mountz Jewelers and Essis and Sons are donating fantastic prizes for the raffle.
This year’s event will feature music during the Meet the Artist Reception. Local restaurants and caterers will also be making generous food donations for this special event. The reception along with registration, raffle ticket sales and silent auctions will begin at 6:00 P.M. The reception will also include a beer tasting courtesy of Troegs and a wine tasting provided by Vineyard at Hershey.
The live auction starts promptly at 7:30 P.M. Individual tickets are available for just $25.00 Call the Habitat office 545-7299 for tickets or www.harrisburghabitat.org for more information and to purchase tickets on-line.
