events, such as fairs, trade shows, etc., providing information to
people interested in Habitat for Humanity activities locally, nationally
and internationally. Some volunteers will speak at public events

to share habitat’s mission with the general public.
Working with Habitat is Sweet: Use graham
crackers, frosting, and cut out cookie decorations to make houses
that the Youth can build, give to a friend, make a whole bunch to
give to construction volunteers or eat right there on the spot. Have
labels made up that say, “I built a house with Habitat for
Humanity” or “Building is Sweet”.
Cards: Have Youth create cards that
they color/ draw/ cut/ paint and give them to the partner families. This
can also be a fundraiser for your affiliate if you sell them in stacks
of ten and 25 for various occasions. These also can be the ‘Thank
yous’ that are given to volunteers.
Corner Stone: Youth create ‘cornerstones’ that
can be placed in or outside of the house using recycled materials
from the worksites- bricks, wood, stones, scraps of siding, wire,
and clay or concrete. They should include the year in which
their house is/was built- or will be completed, and Habitat’s
logo.
T-shirts: Youth can design the new T-shirts
for our affiliate. Have blank sheets of paper with two T-shirt
outlines on it so that they may design the front and back of your
T-shirts. Two different sized Habitat logos on stickers for
the Youth to incorporate into the shirt would be provided.
Build a Sandbox: Youth could get together
and build a sandbox to give to the kids who are members in our partner
families. This addition to their new home is sure to bring
a smile to any kids face and also allows youth who cannot build on
the active site to build something that the families can use.
