Many decisions made at Habitat for Humanity are done with the assistance of committee members.  These committees usually meet once a month and provide great direction and insight for much of the work done by Habitat..

Construction Committee: This committee is responsible for coordinating and carrying out all construction efforts on Habitat homes. It is responsible for safety, construction schedules and materials procurement.

Family Selection Committee: This committee is responsible for recruiting and selecting families for whom homes will be built or rehabbed.

Family Support Committee: This committee is responsible for developing and implementing a program to provide a mentor to help families become successful homeowners.  This involves planning, budget counseling and homeowner/home repair education programs. This committee serves as an on-going liaison between the board and the families that have purchased homes constructed or rehabilitated by Habitat.

Finance Committee:  This committee is responsible to the Board for all financial matters, including: insurance, mortgage and escrow accounts, financial reporting, and annual budgets and investments. This committee also oversees monthly mortgage payments.

Home Repair Committee:  This committee is responsible for reviewing requests for home repair from low-income individuals and families in our area; determining which repairs can be done by our organization. This committee will also organize and carry out all repairs.

Public Relations Committee:  This committee is responsible for publicizing the work of our organization to the wider public through various media channels and for securing and equipping speakers for other organizations. This committee is also responsible for the maintenance of a mailing list of supporters, as well as preparing and distributing periodic newsletters/mailings.

Resource Development Committee:  This committee is responsible to the board for the development of resources for the work of the organization. Members will develop, and with the help of the Board members, implement plans to secure support from churches and congregations, individuals, foundations and corporations. Resources include financial support and volunteer efforts. The committee is also responsible for the development of special events. Their key function is to obtain monetary and material donations and recruit, assimilate and recognize volunteers.

Site Selection Committee:  This committee is responsible for locating and selecting sites upon which the Habitat homes will be constructed or renovated.

Green Team:  This committee is responsible for studying Green Design and figuring out ways that our affiliate can implement these ideas into the construction aspect of Habitat.

Headquarters Design Committee: This committee is responsible for developing the designs and overseeing the construction/remodeling process of the Headquarters building on Walnut and N 13th Street in Harrisburg.  Consideration towards the daily operations of Habitat and the many uses for the building so that the building is functional for all sorts of occasions that Habitat handles in a years time is the primary goal.  A secondary goal is preserving the historical elements of the Publishing building.

Youth/ Senior Activities:  This committee is responsible for determining age appropriate opportunities and activities that our affiliate may not already incorporate on a daily basis.  Creating partnerships with schools, retirement communities, day care facilities and everywhere in between is important to our affiliate to create a fully community based organization.  Also, connecting the generations is important in ensuring that our community members are learning from each other.

Anyone interested in volunteering with a committee should contact the Habitat office at 545-7299.
