Habitat Accepts Gift from TMI

Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area announced that TMI has made a donation of $5,000 to the non-profit’s operating funds.  Donations to local charities have been reduced this year as a result of the economic downturn, according to TMI officials.

Habitat’s been a partner with workers from TMI for several years and many of the local employees come out and are a part of Habitat’s large legion of volunteers.

“Thanks very much to TMI Site Vice President Bill Noll and the employees of Three Mile Island.  We are grateful for their commitment to our local community, low-income families and the need for affordable homes.  Through TMI’s volunteer efforts and financial commitment we are changing lives,” said Eve Wachhaus, Executive Director of the local Habitat.

“Every month several TMI employees have done work for Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area,” said group coordinator Bill McSorley of TMI Engineering.  “I know we have made a major contribution to the neighborhoods where Habitat works.”

Other TMI volunteers include Rich Freeman, Dennis McGettrick, John Tesmer, Amy Higley, Greg Ciraula, Brian Miscavage, Dustin Stoltz, Sheri Emswiler, Charlie Hartman, Alan Seedarsan and Jen Lee -- just to name a few.

Founded in1976, Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that provides housing for low income families.  Worldwide, Habitat for Humanity has built more than 350,000 houses, sheltering more than 1.75 million people in more than 3,000 communities.  Since its inception in 1986, the Harrisburg area affiliate has built nearly 60 houses and completed over 150 home repairs, providing simple, decent, and affordable shelter for families in need.
